Just as a client for a doctor, lawyer or accountant
relies upon professional accreditation, you should feel
confident that the person you hire to interpret a foreign
language for you is qualified.
We at IG believe that professionals in
any field should be held to consistent standards of
performance. Now is the time for language
interpreters to be so recognized.
All interpreters in the certified database of
Interpreters' Group meet the following standard:
- Certified as competent by independent
organization;
- Continues to be a member in good standing with
the organization;
- Committed to a Code of Ethics for professional
conduct which is enforced by the organization.
In addition, the members of the certified database
are encouraged to carry malpractice and/or errors and
omissions insurance, although it is not required.
Benefits of Being a Registered
Client
As a registered client, you will have the opportunity to
post your assignment for the certified directory
database. Available interpreters who have met your posted specifications
can send you price quotes for you to choose from. The posted profiles of all interpreters - except
identifying information - can help you select which ones you
want to contact.
IG will release the identities of the interpreter
after "locking in" its referral fee of five
percent of the quoted price. If you want to contact more
than one, the (single) referral fee is based on the lowest bid
of all responses.
You can then choose to pay the interpreter directly --
minus our referral fee - or lock in the total fee from your
registered account.
PAYMENT AT THIS STAGE IS PRELIMINARY
ONLY IG will not process payment
until you notify us of completed performance, or after 30 days
if you fail to contact us.
Guarantee
Policy
We understand that pre-arranged
assignments may be changed or postponed, or that the
interpreter's performance may not be satisfactory to you. In
such cases, you can cancel the referral fee and -- if payment
to the interpreter was made through your account with us --
the entire payment by completing the cancellation form. We do
not process refunds of payments made by you directly to the
interpreter.
Open Directory
If the assignment
has not been filled within 10 days after being posted for
the certified interpreter list, IG then
requests your permission to post it on our OPEN DIRECTORY,
whose membership consists of interpreters who have not yet
been certified (NOTE: uncertified interpreters are only listed
on the Open Directory for 12 months, after which they are
required to become certified by a qualifying
organization).
The payment and guarantee policy are otherwise
the same as for the Certified
Directory.
